    Backstory

Every defence has a personality. The Ballista’s personality is: wait for it. It is a siege crossbow with enormous range β€” the longest on the farm β€” and it has never once been in a hurry. It loads, it aims, it breathes, and then it fires a bolt the size of a small fence post across the entire field. The sound it makes on impact is deeply, profoundly satisfying. The farm has a word for it: thunk.

It is slow. It is expensive. It is worth it. A Ballista bolt does not tickle and it does not negotiate β€” it deletes. The flock has learned to listen for the thunk the way sailors listen for thunder: they know what comes next, and they know they cannot outrun it.

Its range means it can sit behind the entire defence line and still reach the action, which makes it the perfect boss-killer: point it at the Cluckening, the Rooster, or anything wearing a crown, and let physics do the talking. Armour Piercing Rounds make every bolt heavier, and Rapid Fire gives it a second opinion. The operator of the Ballista has one rule: never fire until it feels right. It always feels right.

Official file: β€œA rapid-fire peashooter. Holds the trigger down and believes.”
    The story so far

    Backstory

There is a philosophy among the farm’s defenders, and it is written on the Gatling’s casing in permanent marker: if at first you don’t succeed, keep firing. The Gatling is a rapid-fire peashooter on a tripod, operated by a man with very strong opinions and very steady hands. It holds the trigger down and believes. That is the entire strategy.

The pellets are small. Individually, they are almost insulting β€” a peashooter’s worth of ambition per shot. But the Gatling does not care about individual pellets. It cares about volume. Dozens of shots a second turn the road in front of it into a hailstorm, and swarms that thought they were safe learn that a thousand tiny hits still counts as a massacre.

Its weakness is honest: low damage per shot means it needs time, and time means the flock gets closer. Armour Piercing Rounds fix that β€” every tiny pellet bites a little harder β€” and Rapid Fire turns the hailstorm into a monsoon. The operator does not discuss strategy. The operator simply holds the trigger down and believes.

    GHOST

Official file: β€œZaps the nearest chicken with science. Science does not negotiate.”
    The story so far

    Backstory

The Chicken Laser began as a very expensive red dot in a very cheap lab, and ended as the farm’s most reliable single-target zap. It is a laser on a post, aimed at the road, with one instruction: zap the nearest chicken with science. It does not negotiate. It does not explain. It simply fires, and the universe quietly agrees that this is how it should be.

Its range is excellent, its aim is clinical, and against ghosts it is 3x more effective β€” because ghosts, for all their floating and moaning, have never once been immune to a well-aimed beam of pure logic. Stealth chickens hate it for the same reason. Science does not care about their feelings. Science does not care about anything except the nearest chicken.

Its one limitation is focus: it hits a single target at a time, and it has strong opinions about which target that should be. Pair it with a Cluckbuster for Spectral Focus β€” +50% laser damage against ghosts β€” or stack the Laser Focus relic for +50% on every zap. The farm’s scientists have a poster on the wall. SLOW

Official file: β€œA heat beam that slowly cooks chickens. Cooked chickens drop bonus eggs.”
    The story so far

    Backstory

The Rotisserie Ray is what happens when the farm’s kitchen equipment unionises and demands a role in the war effort. It is a heat beam, aimed patiently down the road, that cooks chickens slowly β€” low and slow, like the best barbecue, because anything worth doing is worth doing at a temperature the chicken cannot outrun.

The slow burn is the point. It is also the weakness β€” the beam takes time, and time is the one resource the flock never runs out of. But the farm has a favourite saying: a cooked chicken drops bonus eggs. The ray turns your defence line into a production line, and the chickens that make it through the beam arrive at the door well-done and worth more than they were before.

Every field manual notes the same quiet fact: the Rotisserie is the Demolition Drumstick’s one true fear. The drumstick that smashes walls for a living has never once stood in front of a heat beam and not reconsidered its career. Pair it with a Fan and the Firestorm kicks in β€” cooked chickens tumble and ignite everything they land near, and the slow burn becomes a very fast problem for the whole flock.

    GHOSTSTEALTH

Official file: β€œFires concentrated SHOO! waves. Terrific against ghosts and stealth chickens.”
    The story so far

    Backstory

Somewhere in a marketing department that has since been shut down for public safety, a prototype was labelled with a number that no engineer had verified: 9000. The Cluckbuster 9000 is not a 9000 of anything in particular β€” it is, however, the most effective anti-ghost, anti-stealth device the farm has ever built, and the farm has learned not to question the number.

It fires concentrated SHOO! waves. That is the technical term. The device inhales, aims, and emits a blast of pure dismissal so potent that stealth chickens lose their invisibility out of sheer embarrassment and ghosts flicker like bad reception. Terrific against both β€” because neither of them has ever been SHOO!-ed with this much authority.

Its weaknesses are equally famous. Against normal chickens it is a polite inconvenience β€” a firm wave that says “no” without meaning it. And each use costs more than the last, because the Cluckbuster 9000’s fuel economy was designed by the same people who named it. Pair it with a Chicken Laser and the spectral focus sharpens: +50% laser damage against ghosts. The flock has started staying visible on purpose, just to be safe.

Official file: β€œBlasts three pellets at close range. Very persuasive.”
    The story so far

    Backstory

The farm has exactly one diplomatic strategy, and it is mounted beside the road at a range where conversation is impossible. The Shotgun fires three pellets at close range. It is, as the manuals note with an uncharacteristic lack of euphemism, very persuasive.

Negotiations follow a strict protocol. First, the chicken approaches. Second, the hooded negotiator levels the barrels. Third, three pellets make their point simultaneously. Chickens that survive the first round of talks rarely attend the second. The pellets are fast, close and unanimous β€” a burst so emphatic that single chickens have been known to change their entire philosophy mid-stride.

Its only weakness is reach. It must be close enough to be convincing, which means it lives on the short side of the road where the flock funnels. Upgraded with Armour Piercing Rounds and Rapid Fire, the farm’s negotiator becomes even more persuasive β€” and the flock has started taking the long way around. The farm considers this a win for diplomacy.

Official file: β€œSprays hot oil at the nearest chicken, burning it over time. Scales with Armour Piercing Rounds.”
    The story so far

    Backstory

Every fast-food franchise dreams of this moment. The Fryer Flamethrower is a deep-fat fryer that has given up on food entirely and decided to pursue its true passion: making chickens very, very crispy. It sprays hot oil at the nearest chicken β€” a short, brutal, absolutely devastating burst that keeps burning long after the spray stops.

Short range is the only thing keeping it honest. It has to be close enough to smell the problem before it solves it, which means it lives right on the edge of the road where the flock walks. The flock has learned to give that corner a wide berth, and the fryer has learned to find that hilarious.

The burn is the real weapon. The initial spray hurts, but the ticking burn is what turns a chicken into a walking recipe. Armour Piercing Rounds make every tick bite harder, and a Fan nearby turns the whole thing into a fire-spreading catastrophe the flock cannot outrun. The fryer does not ask why it was built. It only asks what’s for dinner. The answer is always chickens.

Official file: β€œLong-range single shots. The archer keeps missing their lunch break.”
    The story so far

    Backstory

The farm’s archer has a very simple routine: stand at the edge of the field, nock an arrow, aim for a very long time, fire once, and check the sky for lunchtime. The routine has never once been broken. The archer’s arrows, meanwhile, have broken many things β€” because the archer may be distracted, but the bow is not.

Long-range single shots. That is the whole doctrine. One arrow, one very precise line across the whole field, from a position so far back that the flock has usually forgotten it exists by the time the arrow lands. Cheap to build at 25 eggs, patient by nature, and entirely reliable β€” except for the rate of fire, which is slow for a very good reason: the archer keeps missing their lunch break.

Every missed lunch break is an arrow that did not get fired. The farm’s accountants have calculated that the archer has missed 1,847 lunch breaks and fired 1,847 arrows, and that the correlation is neither coincidence nor acceptable. The archer disagrees. The archer is very far away. The flock, it should be noted, does not share the accountants’ concerns β€” the flock has a very healthy respect for a bow that shoots further than it can run.

    Backstory

Every kitchen eventually produces a whisk too angry to stay in the kitchen. The Egg-Beater Turret is that whisk β€” bolted to a motor, pointed at the road, and given a single instruction it has never once questioned: slap. It slaps chickens. Fast hits, low damage, hilarious. Nobody who has watched it work has failed to smile, which is precisely why the flock has learned to fear it.

The motor never stops. It does not aim in the traditional sense β€” it rotates, and whatever happens to be in front of the whisk when it comes around receives a very fast, very polite, very insistent slap. Individual slaps do almost nothing. That is the point. Ten slaps a second, from the cheapest motor the farm could find, adds up faster than the flock likes to admit.

It is not a weapon of precision. It is a weapon of enthusiasm. With Armour Piercing Rounds and Rapid Fire it becomes a blur β€” and the flock learns that a thousand tiny slaps still counts as a beating. It asks for nothing but eggs and electricity, gives nothing but motion, and refuses, on principle, to be taken seriously. That is why it is so dangerous.

    The story so far

    Backstory

Somewhere between the arcade and the chicken revolution, a cabinet was repurposed. The screen still flickers, the buttons still click, and the coin slot has been quietly modified to accept exactly one thing: eggs. The Coin-Operated Turret is an arcade machine with a mission, and the mission is to turn your egg supply into projectile violence, two eggs at a time.

It is the cheapest turret on the board at 8 eggs, and for good reason β€” nothing on the farm runs on a tighter budget. It fires only while it is fed. Feed it, and it shreds the flock with the grim efficiency of a machine that has been waiting all day for a coin. Let it run dry, and it simply stops β€” screen dim, button unlit, blinking INSERT EGG TO CONTINUE like an accusation.

Great early, risky late. In the opening waves it is the best egg you ever spent; when the waves get fat and the egg supply gets thin, every shot it fires is a tiny hole in your economy. It does not ask questions. It does not negotiate. It is, as the manuals note with a single drawn-in frowny face, coin-operated.

    πŸ”± SUPER fusion

Eight of this defence fuse into one SUPER unit β€” x10 damage and double lifetime. Only one SUPER on the board at a time; extra sets feed it to power it up.

    πŸ”§ Upgrades & buffs

Hover a tower and press U for +25 seconds of lifetime per level. Overclock boosts all damage and fire rate by 50% for 25 seconds, and when the door drops below 15% HP every tower fires 25% faster. Press H for buff mode β€” towers beside a SUPER boost it 5% each.

    How it gets destroyed

    Durability

    πŸ’₯ Smash hits

5 hits before it falls apart. 5 smash hits and it falls apart. If it runs out of eggs it doesn’t die β€” it just stops firing and looks at you.

    πŸ— Who smashes it

Demolition Drumsticks take 50–75% of a structure’s max HP per swing, and Heavy Metal Chickens and Bureaucrat Elites knock things down too.

    ☒️ Friendly fire

Your own Nuke and explosive chain reactions don’t care whose side it’s on β€” keep fragile towers out of the blast radius.
